The Cuban film “El Mayor,” about the insurrectionary struggle in Cuba against Spanish colonial rule

The Cuban film “El Mayor,” about the insurrectionary struggle in Cuba against Spanish colonial rule, was screened at the 15th Noida Global Film Festival, which took place Dec. 8-10.

The film from the Caribbean country is a 2018 production and is inspired by the life of Major General of the Cuban liberation army, Ignacio Agramonte, and his wife Amalia Simoni.
The Counselor for Cultural Affairs of the Cuban Embassy in India, Malena Rojas Medina, highlighted the historical importance of Ignacio Agramonte as one of the fundamental leaders in the struggles for Cuba’s independence during the 19th century, when she made the presentation of the film before the youth audience that filled the venue of the city of cinema. The Cuban diplomat also stressed that the Cuban film would allow to bring the Indian public a little closer to the history of Cuba, its culture, its roots, but above all, to its fighting spirit. Cuba and India are two geographically distant peoples, but they share feelings, values and principles equally. For more than 60 years, Cuba and India have maintained relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity.
The Festival is sponsored by the International Chamber of the Media and Entertainment Industry, the Asian Film and Television Academy and the Marwah Film and Video Studios.
The event was attended by various filmmakers, who presented their works and participated in exhibitions, workshops and seminars highlighting the latest developments in the field of cinema.
